The Grande Nation charts a course for the energy transition

With its new energy transition law, France has set a course for less atomic energy, more renewables, energy efficiency and climate protection. What this means for photovoltaics, however, depends on how the fine points of the law are shaped and how it is implemented.

How does solar backtracking make projects more productive?

Solar backtracking is a tracking control program that aims to minimize PV panel-on-panel shading, thus avoiding production losses. When a tracker, or a linked tracker row, is used near another, it shades the adjacent tracker during early morning and late afternoon hours.

How to increase PV plant output and efficiency with solar trackers?

Maximising return on investment is the primary goal for utility-scale solar plant owners and developers. Achieving this objective requires a combination of careful planning, smart design and strong components selection. While optimising balance of systems for these plants is a major concern, the focus typically centers on inverters, mounting and racking solutions for fi xed-tilt systems. An often overlooked contributor with major ROI acceleration potential is solar tracker technology. Through project case studies carried out in South Africa, this article explains the benefi ts of solar trackers compared to fi xed-tilt systems and how to further optimise PV plants using this method.

How does a new single-axis tracking process increase solar plant efficiency?

Obtaining better energy harvest and maximizing return on investment are the primary goals for utility-scale solar plant owners and developers.Today, focus is shifting to solar trackers–motorized structures that orient photovoltaic panels toward the sun in order to collect more direct sunlight throughout the day–as a reliable means to achieve these objectives. According to a recent research report by analyst firm IHS, single-axis trackers will be the preferred type of balance of system ground-mounted structure for PV modules in the USA this year. Indeed, single-axis trackers increase plant production up to 25% in comparison to fixed-tilt installations. The energy output of a solar plant equipped with single-axis trackers can be further optimized by implementing an efficient tracking process.
